MSX-PLAYer - Official MSX Emulator

MSX-PLAYer - Official MSX Emulator

Postby Mute » Sun Dec 17, 2017 3:50 pm

I Like Msx and I was looking around google...and just found this.. never knew they had an official Emulator..

MSX-PLAYer is the only official MSX emulator. It was released by ASCII

It was released on CD-ROM with the Japanese MSX Magazine, Permanent Revival edition 1 in December 2002. It included a version for Windows and for PocketPC2002.

In Europe Sunrise was allowed to ship an English language version of the MSX-PLAYer emulator with their version of the MSX Game Reader.

Would anyone have this?...Could this be uploaded?

I feel like some people would rather "socially network" and potentially get the wrong answer slowly, rather than just use google and get the right answer immediately.

as a person who owns 4 MSXs and multiple MSX games,i would love that :)

however, seems like the english version requires a cartridge to work+doesnt work on Windows 7,so i think we need the most recent japanese version, released in 2008,even though it would only be in japanese :(

the MSX is really an underrated system. it is incredible how, despite the collecting craze and how collectable it is,almost no one ever heard of it nowadays, even collectors :/

I found out that that is Release 1.. it is the first release, based on intent.. so it runs without a GameReader, but Only ~1/3rd or audio is emulated. The program is completely in Japanese, and has very little in the way of configuration: no controller config, no video enhancement options, and no savestate support.

Also copies of the emulator are given with MSX GameReaders, and as such it doesn't read disk images: you either need to use real disks or mount images in a virtual floppy disk.

Found All 3 releases of the mag's cd-roms :

Cdrom 1
First volume of MSX Magazine CD-ROM, of a special three-volume "revival" of the magazine on the occasion of the platform's 20th anniversary. Contains a selection of MSX material -- chiefly, software playable via the MSXPLAYer emulator executables (versions for Windows and PocketPC 2002). Also includes scans of game and software manuals. Open the "MSXPLAYerinst.htm" file in the root directory for easy navigation.
