Bin/Cue Files Question

Postby NSSFan » Mon May 21, 2018 2:02 pm

Hi,

i like to make disc images of my Sega Mega-CD, Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation CD's with Imgburn and make Bin/Cue files.

I know that some of the games have multi track redbook audio where you could put the CD in a CD Player and skip to track 2 and listen to the music that way.

What i understand is that the Bin contains the entire CD and the Cue contains information where the tracks are and when to play them.

now my question is the majority of the games do not have redbook audio and only a single track so the Cue file is unnecessary right?

I mean the Cue file is only necessary when its a multi track CD right?

Could someone who has the knowledge about these things answer my question

Depending on how he disk was made depends on how to treat it.
Some PS1 games have all the AUDIO in BIN Files (1 Cue and Several BIN files) or APE files that need converting to BIN using tools. But in general, if a game don't have a CD Audio Soundtrack then CUE is not needed. If you burn and get no music, you know the cue was needed afterall !
Track 1 is always DATA
Track 2 onwards usually music on PS1 stuff

If a PS1 game uses say XA/ADX files for music, cue is not needed in any way

Don't !
If there are several BIN files you burn using the CUE
The other BIN files past the main DATA Bin are converted CD Audio track, lossless that will burn correctly as CDDA even as they are called BIN files
Never merge bins !
Just use the cue (Open with notepad and you'll see what I mean)

Top line tells you the BIN name the DATA is in
Lines below should be treated as CDDA and are the start and stop points..

1x CUE 1xbin usually means no CD Audio

Hi,

this is how i do it and you tell me if its wrong

for example from the internet i have downloaded Mortal Kombat 3 for the PS1 it comes as 62 bin files and 1 cue file.

i always like to combine the multiple bin files into 1 bin file.

the program i use is daemon tools lite i quick mount the cue file of Mortal Kombat 3 and a virtual drive shows up most of the times as Drive E.

I than open imgburn and click on Create Image File From Disc i select Mortal Kombat 3 which is in Drive E i choose a destination where the output will land most of the time its desktop.

i set Read Speed for both Data and Audio to 1X and than i make a Disc Image.

after its finished it comes out as 1 Bin file and 1 Cue File is this the right way?

IF the soundtrack is working , you did it right
Although you shouldn't have to go through the merging of bins
Just write it using the CUE

CUE file ain't too complex and it contains all the info needed to burn a direct 1 to 1 copy.
The contents of the CUE will carry all the other BIN files in correct order and sort any start/stop issues from happening with music. Like I said, open with NOTEPAD to see how they work
In general though, it's best to use CUE files to handle BIN's
