S.M.A.R.T Log - Should i be worried?

Postby xXDarkHourXx » Thu Apr 26, 2018 4:04 pm

Hi everyone,I am new here and i bought myself a Xbox with Unleashx installed somedays ago. When i was checking the Harddisk setting, i saw something that got my interest.

Should i be worried? Can someone please explain me what this mean? I specially worried about the "Raw Read Error" thing. It is bad?

I wouldn´t be too worried. SMART Values aren´t easy to understand and interpret because they are vendor specific, i.e. you can´t easily compare how healthy a WD Drive and a Seagate Drive are in relation to each other because the same Value can mean something different.

The "Raw Read Error" thing you are worried about is a Log of Vendor specified Errors, usualy a lower number means more errors, but again, this is Vendor specific and might be different. My best guess for the "Max" Value is that these are Vendor specified Limits at wich a drive can be considered to be on it´s way out. if this is a case of "higher is better" once this Value goes below 100, but even then the drive can be good for years to come depending on how heavily it is used and how fast the Value goes down, and even if it goes below 89 it doesn´t have to mean anything yet, it´s just a value the Vendor had set at wich they won´t guarantue for anything anymore.

I wouldn't be too worried about the raw read error count.

It's when the Reallocated Sector Count value starts to drop that you're going to wish you'd made a back-up of anything important. The RSC is probably the only one on that list that you don't want to see dropping.

So right now the Values of the RSC are pretty bad? Or it is normal? I kinda scare to lose everything.

Considering that the Drive works I would say you are good to go. My Interpretation of your 100 Value with a Max of 100 is that the Drive is currently perfectly fine. The Issue is that we don´t know for sure if the RSC Value is given as a Raw Value or a Normalized Value, but I would guess it´s a normalized Value since Raw would count up from 0 with anything but 0 increasing the chance of the drive failing within the next 6 months by a factor of 5, a normalized Value would start at a given value (i.e. 100) and count down as Errors occour.

The Max Value of 100 in this case would support my theory that tha Max Values shown are what the Manufacturer considers to be healthy with everything at or above the value being good. That Max Value is usualy reffered to as the Threshold Value and is usualy given as a normalized Value.

yeah SMART is potentially a hair puller...
It looks terrible, but it's all within working spec.
When a SMART check fails, you'll know about it !!!

Google : HDD Make > Model Number > SMART Values
ie
SEAGATE MX22532-11C Smart Values
^^ Bogus for example
