How do I get 480p/720p output?

Postby bananapi761 » Fri Apr 21, 2017 1:25 pm

I own a PAL Xbox with UnleashX installed and I recently upgraded to a component cable when I found out you could get 720p/1080i output on it. I set it up and enabled 720p in UnleashX settings, rebooted the console and started NeoGenesis. I set its video output to 720p and it gave a message saying I didn't enable 720p in the dashboard. I then searched online and apparently progressive video output was not possible on PAL units. Is there a way to unlock this functionality, or region switch the console? I'm only interested in 480p and 720p.

I think you've either found that UnleashX appears to allow you to change the video settings even in PAL mode but actually won't save them. Try changing them, Save, Exit and Reboot then go back to video settings and see if the changes are saved.

Alternatively it could be you're using a protected softmod and the resolution settings revert to what they were originally on reboot.

Whatever the case you first must region swap your PAL console to NTSC because that is the only version that supports 480p/720p/1080i. This is done using the Enigmah region changer which usually comes as default App with most softmods but is easily found here and other places.

Swap it to NTSC and then the 480p/720p video settings should stick although sometimes there can be problems with this. Going to the MS dash and setting them up there may resolve that problem should it appear.

If it still won't stick then you've likely installed a protected softmod and the method of changing the resolution settings will depend on what installer you used. The best ones make that very easy.

The options are still saved after a reboot, but they don't activate. I'll use the region changer and see if it makes a difference. Also, does the region stay switched after rebooting?

Thanks, the region switcher worked.

Like the others say, change region to NTSC using Enigmah

EDIT: Glad you got it solved. Was it necessary for you to go to the M$ Dash?

I'm not sure, I just changed the region to NTSC, rebooted, set 480p and 720p in UnleashX, and then did the same in the MS Dashboard just in case. I knew the region switch worked because the MS Dashboard usually didn't show options for 720p and 1080i.
