A new XboxHDM tutorial for new people

Postby thewheelman282 » Wed Jul 02, 2014 6:36 pm

this tutorial is called 'XboxHDM for Dummies'. It was posted to xbox-scene a long time ago and it is awsome. But since xbox-scene is gone i decided to bring it here for archiving.

anyway i didnt write it so all credit for it goes to member 'textbook' of xbox-scene. However i did heavily rewrite it. Lots of grammar mistakes and broken english and parts out of order or not explained completely were in the original. Basically i cleaned it up

so for everyone reading this who is new to xbox modding, this tutorial is for you! Even if you dont use it now, just try to remember that it exists so you can come back to it in the future. It helps to answer the simple questions so members here dont have to. However if you do end up needing help dont hesitate to ask. The members here are very friendly and always help out as much as possible :)

if you want to have a look at the tut the link is here:

Wait, Xbox-Scene is dead now? That's just sad. Shows how much attention I've been paying I guess (takes a while to notice one site going down when you're everywhere though). Anyway, good to see this classic article and these very useful tools are being preserved. Though if there isn't one already, I hope someone's working on a SATA adapter for the Xbox (the tools are only useful as long as you can find drives to use them on after all).

you can use SATA adapters in the xbox but some dont work well. you can also use a SATA HDD's with XboxHDM but again you need a SATA>IDE adapter

Great info. Thanks for posting it all up. I may not ever use it since I keep a backup HDD at all times.. But I'm sure someone will ;)

I can certainly say, with all the trial and error, "figure-it-out" moments, and other tutorials I have read, this one covers pretty much every aspect. As long as a person can get the data properly formatted on the disk they write, this guide has them covered on doing whatever they might need to to an Xbox HDD.

Nice to have it archived!

Should have seen this thread before I attempted softmodding my Xbox.

I ended with error 13,requiring me to use Pimped CD Version (I had only CDs because of XboxHDM being for CDs) to rebuild from scratch because apparently my own CD was missing some files.(I think the 5960 dash was missing)

Now I have a full working Xbox anyways.

By the way,my PAL Xbox is version 1.4  according to the Xbox Identifier application.

I just stumbled across this. Thanks for posting the tutorial.
It seems alot more easier to follow than most other tutorials related to XHDM.

disk might be dirty or cdrom is having trouble. at least that's what happened on my winxp and win98 installs. is retry a option? could eject clean and try again

i struggled with this part for a couple days, and here was my solution:
make sure your eeprom.bin file is in the correct directory
make sure your eeprom.bin file is named in all lower case (cause linux cares!)
