Xbox Regional Exclusives

Postby EmptySpace » Sat Aug 12, 2017 11:10 am

So i was reading this wiki of xbox games and i noticed this bit:

Code: Select all
There are a total of 1045 titles on this list. The list includes 289 titles exclusive to North America, 96 exclusive to Europe, 44 exclusive to Japan, four exclusive to Australia, and one exclusive to Korea. See Lists of video games for related lists. NOTE: This list of EXCLUSIVES is not accurate[citation needed]. Many of the NTSC are also PAL[citation needed].

I then found this post here, listing some of the titles but it's now a closed thread, incomplete and doesn't list the regions.

I'm trying to map out the JAP, AUS and KOR exclusives, does anybody know what which is what?

The four (4) AU exclusive are in that table marked with (AUS) in the Europe release date column:

  • AFL Live 2003,
  • AFL Live 2004,
  • AFL Live Premiership Edition and
  • AFL Premiership 2005

Similarly, JP titles marked in the Title column with (JP). The names of some games were changed for release in Japan.

A bit harder to find the EUR only releases, click on the Europe release date header and scroll down past all the unreleased in Europe North American titles. Find those rows with a European release date and unreleased in North America.

[UPDATE: Wait -- even easier, click on the North America header release date to sort and see those exclusive to Japan and Europe before all the multi-region or North America exclusive releases.]

I don't know where those two lists ^^ came from either or anything about the Japanese stuff ^ but unless you've taken 'exclusive' to mean the US/JAP NTSC version doesn't support PAL then its incorrect.

Exclusive means only released in that region and even without checking I can tell you Voodoo Vince, Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Quantum Redshift, PDO, Mechassault, DOA3, Dino Crisis 3, Toe Jam and Early III, Kingdom Under Fire series, JSRF, Conker, Buffy etc etc ...........all had PAL versions.

The only one on that list which I know to genuinely US Xbox exclusive is Xyanide and the US is welcome to it. I couldn't get on with it at all.

Also the greatly entertaining Metal Wolf Chaos is Japanese Xbox exclusive not US.

That US exclusive list above has a few errors. The Three Dancing Stage games listed are actually the EU versions of the first 3 Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix games - so the Dancing Stage games should be listed as EU exclusives, but again, not really since they are just the DDR games with a different name.

EDIT: I would also be shocked if the three Dead Or Alive releases were US exclusives, given that Team Ninja at the time was one of the more prominent Japanese studios that Microsoft recruited to develop for the Xbox with the intention of drawing interest to the Japanese market.

oh shoot of course i didn't realise it could be misconstrued to mean xbox console exclusive games..thats NOT what i mean.. but that's a pretty complete list of "only on xbox" titles, i will keep it anyway.

i am talking about regional exclusive games (and if we want to get fussy i'm not interested in games that were re-named for different regions), basically i want the games i will/have NEVER see(n) in my local cash converters.

Well than, if you are looking for "ONLY ON XBOX" titles, then you can technically get rid of the DDR titles altogether, as the Xbox releases were just corresponding versions of the games that were released on PS2...

And although it was at the time, Xyanide was later released on PSP, and then PS2 in the EU, if I'm not mistaken - either way, it's didn't stay exclusive to Xbox.

Xyanide was/is an Xbox regional (NTSC) exclusive as was/is Myst 4: Revelation. In the latter case although only released in the US so, obviously, sold as NTSC it is actually completely region free ie. will play on an unmodded PAL Xbox.

Not sure whether the same applies to Xyanide. I might check that later.

Just started playing that....how glorious? I can only guess that microsoft US don't have much in the way of sense of humour, it's a truly funny, sharply observed, and wickedly playable feast of, well, chaos. They missed a trick by not calling it President Evil though

It should have had a wider release that is for sure, FromSoftware missed the boat in every sense but perhaps in doing so they made it into the Xbox cult classic it has become.

I think anyone who plays MWC would recognise it as a really entertaining game of its type. It won't be to everyone's taste as its absurdly over the top. But the gameplay, particularly if you go for 100% in every level, is far from being just the dumb destruction fest it might at first appear.

As you say, complete with a well written, funny script it is a properly good game.
