REALLY want to install Devil's Island Pinball on XP

Postby ToddDog » Mon Mar 18, 2013 2:25 am

Hi Folks:

I just dug my copy of Devil's Island Pinball out of storage. When I try to install it on Windows XP, I get a fatal error:

Directx 7 requires Windows 95/98.

I tried the patch from this site, but I had to create the directory C:\Program Files\Expert Software\Devil's Island Pinball from scratch. The patch ran, and wanted to update two files:

audiow32.dll and devils.ddp

So, I copied those from the install CD to C:\Program Files\Expert Software\Devil's Island Pinball manually. The patch updated the two files (the only two files in that directory), so I tried to install the program again...

Got the same fatal error:

Directx 7 requires Windows 95/98.

Any help from ANYONE would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you tried installing it in windows 95 mode? Also it could be that you need to updgrade your graphics card. Another possibility is you might want to try and install the game as Administrator. If these suggesetions don't work then I am sorry. This is all that I could think of.

Thanks! I will try all of that. Right now, I'm updating DirectX - maybe that will help? How do I get to Windows 95 mode?

The only way that I know of getting your system in another mode is to right click on the desktop icon and then go to properties and then click on the compatibility tab. But since you cant install the game for the icon to appear on your desktop I am not sure. Sorry.
