Can anybody recommend some good space flight sims for PC?

Postby Anthony817 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 4:58 am

I been wanting to play a GOOD space shooter for a long time, and played Free Space but looking for something a little more modern and shiny looking.

I got modern DX11 Gfx card, so can handle anything, but prefer some DX9 or higher games.

I got this thing here I really only been using for FSX, DCS: A10C, and a few other games.

Image

This thing is great, but I really gotta get more enjoyment out of it as it is $100 piece of equipment, and I know there are others out there that share my love of armchair piloting.

I just really don't know where to start when it comes to space sims, as I mostly play real life combat sims.

Already played that. ;) Any more suggestions? I really want something that will hold up to my specs.

Eve Online looked epic but I think it was subscription based.

nope!!! i stopped giving space shooters ANY credence after freelancer....(as shooters go...a DAMN good game)
the original idea of it was supposed to have a fully interactive AI like ELITE I & II but it doesn't...
space shooters are in abundance but space simulators...i'm not aware of any that EVER existed for today's computers...
and as for a suggestion that'll challenge your computer...i don't know...
i'm not loaded enough to own a game-rig...but then again...console game for me all the same...
the only other good shooter i can recommend is X3 The Threat...an old one but a damn decent game of it's time...(not a sim though)

Yeah I really would love using my joystick on a mech game, and I am HOPING Hawken allows joysticks but mouse might be more accurate.

I did look into X3 last night and was wanting to check it out. Anything at least in DX9 would be good enough for me, although I am not all about the graphics, as I still game on retro systems as you all can tell.

Keep the suggestions coming guys I do appreciate it.

Thanks. Yeah I got Arvoch Alliance last week but I am having trouble cracking it and using the keygen, gotta block it from the net.

Only problem is the game starts to lag after about 4-5 mins, and my rig is more than capable of running it maxed out indefinitely.

Bet!!

Let me work the server and client code for a week or so and ill try and get a working server going on my game hosting connection, my other games are there but that week we had bad weather i unhooked it and GameStat service closed my server banner.

There is a sever called Freelancer 24/7 that i will be playing on in my freetime, I will try to make sure all the stuff works with mine also.

damn, thats one fine looking joystick :) perfect for space-sims, but what about air-flight?
I'm hunting for one of these old-school PS1 controls, it was great for ace combat 3:electrosphere, I kept that disc all this time hoping to get another control, wish I never got rid of it :(
PlayStation Analog Joystick SCPH-1110.jpg

I asked the guy at my local retro shop if he had any ps1 controls with "two joysticks", and he thought I meant ps1 dual-analog controls. didn't seem like he had a clue, really :( generally he is well informed, but these are probably harder to come by nowadays, specially here in Oz. gonna take it this pic/model info into him and see what he can do for me :)

is there a shuttle/rocket sim?

Postby amiga1200 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 12:24 pm

is there any simulation programs LEAKED out there for piloting class 1 & 2 shuttles?? (take off with payload/fuel cells attached, disengaged/jettisoned after gravity barrier is broken) :?
(still in the sim ranges...no particle weapons though) :(
if you can get a sim NASA (or british aerospace) endorsed....i can think of NO BETTER tribute to those yokes/sticks posted... ;) 8-)
(and i'd be all over the sim if one was freely available..)
