Windows 98SE for Xbox

This DVD will install XDSL and all the files needed to run Windows 98se on your Xbox.
You need about 1.5 GB of space left on your E:| partition for this install.
This installer is a pimped out hddprep v1.4 and hats off to the original people involved.
It will install all the files for you and "Linux XDSL / 98Lite" will appear in your apps directory in your Dash(es).
This DVD will not over write existing files on the E: or any other partition (except files associated with this install)
This DVD will not format any partitions or over write any ini xml type files on other partitions.
If you already have XDSL installed on E: just delete it as these are the latest files, but the DVD should over write them ok, also delete any 98lite or associated files that you may have on your xbox hard drive.
Burn this (x)iso to a DVD that your xbox rom tray likes using Nero or your favorite pc burning tool at 4X max. and finalize the DVD (either DVD+R or DVD-R will read on all 3 types of xbox roms)
Boot the flashed TSOP or modchipped xbox with the DVD in the rom tray.
Choose yes to install and it takes about 5~10 minutes.
Turn off xbox through menu, then restart xbox with the eject button and remove install DVD from tray.
To run Windows 98se after the install,
Run XDSL, labelled "Linux XDSL / 98Lite", from the apps directory in your Dash
Choose the fatx e: option and XDSL will boot.
(XDSL itself is a fully working Linux, internet ready, app packed xbox o/s)
Once XDSL is running, double click on the XTerminal icon on the upper right desktop.
Using the keyboard type sh /cdrom/98.sh and hit the return button (a space between sh and /cdrom/98.sh!)
Windows 98 will boot (just hit ok or cancel when asked for a windows password)
Flashfxp is installed to connect to your pc file server for file transfers to win 98 itself or to other ftp file servers on-line
IE and mozilla web browsers and a on-screen keyboard is installed, if you don't have a USB keyboard plugged into a controller port (also support for a mouse)
Runs about the speed of a P1
To shutdown windows 98,
shut down win98 through the Start button like a normal pc
then to shut down XDSL right click or red button on controller on the desktop then choose "shut down"
XDSL will properly shut down the xbox.
Do your shutdowns like this, just don't hit the power button because files may corrupt for XDSL or Win98 and if they do just re-install with the DVD again to start fresh
Basically "XDSL" is being used as the "emulator" which "runs" the "win98 o/s" files.

Do I have to burn this to DVD? Is there no way to FTP it? I only have a handful of DVD's left, so I didn;t want to waist a 4GB DVD for a 357mb image.

Burn to a cdr then man. If it will not read cdr it will read a cdrw as all Xbox drives are capable of that.

Dont even bother Anthony Win 95/98 are useless on XBOX the amount of memory they use leaves jackshit for doing anything else. Youve basicaly got a PC thats Win98 grade but needs to run XBOX files, Linux files and 98 files which pretty much makes it clear before hand you got jack left to run anything else. Great if you wanna do the ol dick swing and say look at me I got Windows on my XBOX but otherwise utterly useless

Actually the latest dreamshell has my biting my words as it run a ton of games with audio full speed. I suggest getting another as games like skies of arcadia run flawlessly.

@Atreyu what works with one console doesnt necesarily carry across to another. Even the man who ported Windows to XBOX said virtualy identical to what I said in the release notes. If there was another port of 98 for XBOX Im not aware of it, far as I know this was the only one and after testing was turfed due to how innefective it is on the XBOX. Plus XBOX already runs a modified WinCE so why even worry about installing a previous Windows version? With DC I can understand it since it didnt have an HDD so no OS per se the way a WIndows user would conceive it

Be careful using this. It wiped out over 125gb of games and emulators. I can't believe it did this to my system. Haven't even had it 24 hours and all my games were erased.
