N64 emulator + 188 rom best of compilation Update Information

Surreal64CE B6.0 game compilation. 188 of the most popular games that play well. This is a complete standalone, ready to go. Several settings for each game are saved in only this emulator. Putting the roms in any emulator other than the one included will cause games to not run properly. So install the entire package provided.

I also highly recommend the optional preview vids in the link below. They really make the compilation pop.

After your first boot of the emulator press the X button, go to "Launcher Settings", then change "Hide Launch Screens" to "Yes". This way you won't have to play emulator roulette every time you boot a game. Don't worry, all settings are saved in the emulator's "Saves" folder. I also put each game's setting in the rom name and comments, visible in the emulator. It just makes it easier to experiment with settings then easily revert back to mine.

All games except two work in HD thus have 720p turned on. If your TV can't do 720p, it will simply revert to standard definition. No worries. To change skins simply press the X button and go to Launcher Settings. There are 3 standard definition skins and 3 HD skins. They all work great so just pick the one you like best.

All roms are from the no-intro set, unless they are translations or hacks. I provided a "Saves Folder Backup" that contains each game's settings, in case you mess them up accidentally. Delete the "Saves" folder and replace it if so. I put moves lists for the fighting games in the Synopsis files for easy access. Highlight a game and hit the X button then go to Synopsis.

Big thanks to userguydude aka Rx whose fixed many of these games and really convinced me to add more games. And he also did the button configuration for all the first person shooters. Some shooters require you to change in game settings to match up, see included "1st Person Shooter Configs.txt". And a big thanks to NeMesiS at emuxtras.net who helped cleanup Surreal in various ways and also did all the preview videos, in a separate download, link below.

Not an ISO, just normal file format. Three parts that need to be combined with Winrar or something like it. Total download size 2.5GB.

Update 5/22/18: In this update I fixed all skins of various problems and added 10 games. Fixed a problem that made some games freeze when the R3 in game emulator menu was accessed. All skins work great now, just pick the one you like best. All Synopsis files work now, some crashed before. I wrote some up for the hacks too. Highlight a game and hit the X button then go to Synopsis to view them. I have another upload I linked to above that has optional preview vids and manuals. If you are upgrading from one of my previous compilations, delete the entire Surreal folder and reinstall fresh. Also delete all your old Surreal user data or it will cause problems, located in E:\TDATA\64ce64ce\ and E:\UDATA\64ce64ce\.

Thread if you want to discuss the compilation or ask questions...

Your welcome guys. I'm definitely running out of games to add so I did some much needed work on cleaning up Surreal. Be sure and try all the skins, they all work now. And the preview vids are jaw dropping.

Your welcome. Yeah I think so too. It really came together when I got almost all games going in HD. I never would have guessed N64 games would look so good in 720p.

Once again, thanks & awesome work! Question, though, does WCW vs. NWO World Tour not work in this emulator? Just wondering since I didn't see it on the list.

It plays too slow. But I honestly didn't spend too much time trying to fix it. Lot's of other games like it. You might be able to get it better with some work. Just try a lot of combinations. For slow games 5.10 and Basic audio usually help. But I think it crashes on those settings. For anyone adding games, simply look at my setting for other games in rom name and comments. That will give you an idea of what to tweak.

Yeah, it's not the best of the wrestling game, as Revenge, WM2000 and No Mercy are definitely better, but it's still kinda fun. I tried it on another emulator before & got a black screen, so I thought maybe it just didn't work. I'll have to check out WCW Mayhem & Backstage Assault -- though those games are a bit crap. :P One of those doesn't play well using POPS on PS2 (I think it was Backstage Assault).

Just want to say thank you for the work you've put into this. Just a small point but if I leave mario kart and it goes to attract mode it will crash at the end of it, not a problem if you go straight into game, but it seems that other setups (coinops skips the attract mode but i think they it uses a different build and 1964). Anything you know of to get round this?
If not cheers anyway

It can't be fixed because Mario Kart is ultra and leaves no room for tweaking. So yeah, just don't let the attract mode go. This is a common problem as the intro typically dumps a little into memory. And often it kinda stacks up and cause problems later. I weeded it out with most games, but I don't recommend letting the attract mode go before you play any game. The same thing can also happen with long play sessions. Sometimes things sort of slowly stack up in the memory. So it's a good idea to use save state every 30 minutes or so with a shaky game. That's what I do anyway.

There is another similar problem with Mario Kart64 as well I might have mentioned before and that is if you complete the 'campaign' ie. all races/Gold cup at the end of the presentation sequence the final credits FMV auto-runs.

When that finishes the game freezes probably for the same reason. The problem is you can't avoid it; you can bring up the Surreal exit menu and save at any point but on next launch of the game it will start playing the credits again with the same result.

What this mean is that you can't actually save the completed game or for that matter the last set of races either.

No big deal as you can have plenty of entertainment from the game anyway but it is another reminder that no matter how good an emulator is they are rarely perfect.

One big piece of advice for such problems is to turn off 720p for the game then try and get past glitches. 720p can push the limits for some games.

I don't and in fact can't use 720p as my main retro gaming TV is only 480p/1080i. So it is not that in this case unfortunately.

It is generally very good advice though. Different game and not really related in any way to this matter but the original Doom Xbox homebrew port is supposedly playable in 1080i but if you try when the first FMV kicks in the game freezes. Works fine in 480p. I had similar experiences with other games too.

480p is the resolution sweet spot for the Xbox and most games still look pretty good using it, at least on the displays I use.

Well I tested and played earlier versions of this compilation in 480i. But I got a better TV and 720p won me over. N64 are just spectacular looking in 720p. So I do all testing now in 720p. But typically changes to make 720p work also make 480i a little better. So it's all good no matter what you choose. But I did notice more glitches when I played Wonder Project in 720p. Have a feeling that's the case for many games. Keep in mind I only play most games for like 30 minutes tops to test them. So glitches deeper in the game are probably worse than I realize.
